Gracie Jones Obituary

GRACIE ODEN JONES

Gracie began her journey of life as the second daughter of Ernest Oden and Mable Fields Oden, in Logan, West VA on September 20, 1929, and peacefully entered the presence of God on Resurrection Day, April 20, 2019.  Her early years were spent in Logan, west VA.  Upon moving to Library, PA at an early age, she received her education in Snowden Township School District.

At the age of nine, Gracie accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at te Mt. Zion Baptist church by Pastor Hodge.  Even at that young age she became an active member of the church.  She attended Sunday School and was active in many of the functions and ministries of the church.  She worked for Sears for may years and enjoyed meeting and interacting with people as she went into their homes.

Gracie married her childhood sweetheart, Robert (Bobby) Jones, Sr. in 1948.  At that time she moved her membership to First Baptist Church of Bridgeville, PA where she became an active member of Society, and Sunday School teacher of the adult class.  After fifteen years she came back home to continue serving and worshiping her Lord and Savior at Mt. Zion.  Gracie chaired many committees and became the Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School, the Sunday School Superintendent, and in 2014 was named Sunday School Superintendent Emeritus.  She also served as the Coordinator of the Tract Ministry, sang on the Senior Choir, served as the Bible Discussion leader of the Missionaries, and was coordinator of the bereavement dinners.  In all of this, Gracie still found time to visit her sick and shut in neighbors, and was a great prayer warrior, calling out to God the names of those who stood in need.

Not only did Gracie find time to serve in her church, she was also very active in the Women's Ministry of the Upper Monongahela Area of the Allegheny Union Baptist Association (AUBA), serving six years as Vice President, and four years as President.  After her tenure as President, she served as the Program Coordinator for the Western Region of the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention, Inc.  Gracie became an active Board member of the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, an she served as a board member of the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention.

Until just a few days ago she remained steadfast and consistent in studying the Word of God, faithfully attending Bible Study in the building where she lived.  Every day you find her walking holding, talking to, and petting her beloved dog, Chico!  In her last days on earth, she would sit on the edge of her bed, eyes closed and heart content, quietly and sweetly singing songs of Zion.

Gracie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert and three of their sons --- two as infants-- and Robert Jones, Jr.. on August 29, 2003, as well as her brothers Ernest Oden, Charles Oden, and Paul Oden.

Gracie leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her son Edmund Bruce Jones, Sr. of Bridgeville, PA and three sisters Virginia Pope of Murrells Inlet, SC; Rosa O. Kendrick of Deatur, GA, Margaret McKnight of Riverdale, GA, two brothers, Arnold Oden and Otis Oden of Connecticut, three grandsons; Edmund Bruce Jones, Jr., Brian Thomas Jones, and Brandon Scott Jones, great grand-children, Chelsea, Monique, Brandon, Shianne, and Isaiah; great-great grandchildren John and Cheyenne , and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
