Frank William Detwiler Jr., known affectionately as "Scrappy" was born April 28, 1938 to Frank William Detwiler Sr. and Lois West Detwiler. He was the oldest son of seven children born of that union. Frank graduated from the Snowden School District (South Park), where he made a permanent mark in the sports history of the school. Having been a star player on the 1955 WPIAL Football Championship Team. He was an outstanding natural athlete, excelling in basketball as well. He was an avid golfer, bowler, a terrific pool shooter and a huge Pittsburgh Steelers Fan.
He was praised for his work ethic, especially while employed by the P.J. Dick and Dick Corporation Construction Companies. He retired after twenty-seven years. It was here that Scrappy earned another nickname- "Iron Man".
Frank accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as an adult, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Finleyville, PA, where he became the Chairman of the Trustee Board in 2010, under the Pastorship of Reverend James Robinson.
He leaves to mourn : his loving wife Dorothy Higgs of Finleyville, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley Freeman, Brothers: Lawrence (Larry) and James (Butch) Detwiler. Her is survived by his children Chrystal (Randolph) Matuscak of Donora, PA, April Detwiler of Columbia SC, Frank William III (Gilia) of Raleigh NC, Todd Detwiler of Pittsburgh PA, and Corey Detwiler of Jacksonville FL. A brother Charles Detwiler and sisters Maxine Fields and Beverly Detwiler all of South Park PA, Donna (Ron) Crosby of Penn Hills PA, Eric Higgs of Finleyville PA. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
