Eleanora Barbara Greene ("El") was born on March 8, 1933, in Hannastown, PA to the late William and Samiebelle Jackson. Eleanora attended Greensburg High School where she graduated in 1951. She later attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA for 2 years. Eleanora was employed for 32 years with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where she retired from on April 30, 1986. While employed with the Commonwealth of PA, Eleanora was a member of the International Association of Professionals and Security (IAPES) organization. After retirement, she worked at Kaufman's Department Store in the collections department. Besides spending time with family and friends, Eleanora was active in her church, St. James Catholic Church in Wilkinsburg, PA. There she was a Eucharistic Minister, serving at the church and taking communion to hospitals, nursing homes, and private homes. Eleanora also served on the Parish Council, the Apostolic Committee, and the Ladies of Charity. Eleanora received the Magnifying the Kingdom Award for the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 2003. She was a member of the National Black Catholic Congress. Member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Augustine Tolton Court 277, where she held many offices, including Grand Lady. Attended the Northern District Conference and National Convention. She was a member of the Sister Thea Bowman Foundation Chapter 34, the Fourth Degree.
Eleanora passed away peacefully at UPMC Shadyside Hospital on November 20, 2019, with members of her family by her side.
Eleanora is survived by son Keith Greene of Wilkinsburg, PA, sister Yvonne Jackson of Greensburg, PA, brother William Jackson (Brenda) of Greensburg, PA, sister Barbara Cephas (Michael) of Jeannette, PA, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Eleanora is preceded in death by her son Mark Greene, sister Loraine Jackson Watson, and brother Robert Jackson.
Eleanora will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
