Edwina J. (Diamond) Smith

Edwina J. Smith, affectionately known as "Winnie", a beloved mother, departed her life on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, to be with her Heavenly Father.  She was born in Mobile, Alabama on April 12, 1937, to Leroy and Erma Diamond.

She was educated in the Mobile County Public School System.  Edwina was united in marriage to the late George Scott Johnston, Sr.  From that union, she had two children, George Scott and Gregory.

Edwina accepted the Lord as her personal Lord and Savior and attended St. James Church where she sang in the choir.  

Edwina was employed by Gulf Oil Headquarters for 25 years.

Edwina loved people and loved caring for people.  She was an excellent caretaker.  Upon her return to Mobile, AL to care for her elderly mother, Edwina obtained three special needs foster children.

Edwina was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Irma Diamond and brother Ernest McCoy (Marrissetta)  Diamond, Sr. and Manford Diamond.

She leaves to mourn, two children; George Scott and Gregory Johnston; brothers and sisters: Joseph Diamond, Willie Ann Burne, Terrace (Linda) Diamond, Lawrence (Anita) Diamond, Sr., Mack Diamond, Regina (Ricky) Thomas and Greta (Henry) Chappell; Grandchildren: George Scott III, Gregory II, Sarah, Brooke, Carlos, Tasha, Jeremiah, Solomon, Noah and Jayla Johnston, 5 great grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews; Deborah Williams, Ernest (Maureen) Diamond, Jr., Cynthia (Eugene) Bates, Pamela Bingham, Carlos (Tiffany) Diamond, Sr., Donald (Loretta) Diamond, Sr., Ronald (Marie) Diamond and a host of cousins and friends.
