Charles Robert Clark

Charles Robert Clark, Sr, of Pittsburgh passed peacefully, on Sunday October 27, 2019. Charles Sr. was born to David Clark Sr. and Marjorie (Lawrence) Clark on February 10, 1945. As a young man Charles completed his formal education at David B. Oliver High School and joined the United States Army thereafter. Mr. Clark served honorably, standing at the ready on U.S. bases in Germany during the Vietnam War. On June 20, 1970, Charles Sr. married his beloved, Joann Lumsden. Together they built a loving family, raising their two sons, Charles Jr. and Julian, and their daughter Ashley.

Mr. Clark impressed as an affable gentleman who earned an appreciation for the simple pleasures of family life while making a hard won living in the steel mill for Jones and Laughlin Steel Company. In his prime, Mr. Clark would adeptly manage the rigors of metal work during the day and recreate among the city’s most competitive athletes and sportsmen at night. Among Charles’ happiest reflections were those related to his efforts to instill his work ethic, knowledge about physical fitness and athletic competition into his children and other youth in the community. Mr. Clark’s interest in people fueled his twenty year occupation as a Patient Services Assistant at the Veteran’s Association Hospital in Pittsburgh’s East End.

Charles R. Clark, Sr, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, is survived by his wife, of 49 years, Joann (Lumsden) Clark, his three children, Charles, Jr. (Jeneen), Julian (Chrissa), and Ashley (Floyd, Jr.) Cephas, his brother David Jr. (Dolores), his 5 grandchildren, Anthony, Noah, Aliyah, Avery and Nigel; also survived by a host of relatives and friends.
