Bernadine Boyd Obituary

Bernadine, was born to Emma and the late Aaron Boyd Sr. on February 14, 1958 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and departed this life on August 29, 2019. Bernadine affectionately known as Berna and B-Mack attended and graduated from Wilkinsburg Public Schools. While still young she was united in marriage to Stephen Johnson and to this union five children were born, Stephen, Michael, Amber, James (deceased), and Marika. Bernadine would later unite in with Theodore Brackett. Bernadine and Theodore experienced a wonderful love and 24 years of happiness together until she departed this life.

Bernadine was a devoted and loving mother who enjoyed nurturing her children and teaching them to be the best they could be. Bernadine encouraged her children and later her grandchildren to shoot for the moon, always telling them if they fell they would land in the stars. Bernadine’s love was known to extend well beyond family, she was often the neighborhood mom and friend who welcomed any child, soothed the tears of those who were hurting, gave freely of her personal possessions whether it was food, clothing, or shelter. Berna, B-Mack Momma Bern, but most importantly Mommy to her five children. Bernadine knew the meaning of love and demonstrated it in how she lived her life. Bernadine not only loved her children, but taught them how to love life, one another, and God., Bernadine accepted the Lord at an early age, and it was important for her to share the Gospel of Christ with her children. Bernadine was also a devoted daughter and sister and would do anything for her parents Emma and Aaron Boyd Sr. (deceased), or siblings Debbie Boyd (deceased), Aaron Boyd Jr. (deceased), Herschell Boyd, Gerald Boyd (deceased), Michelle BoydEvans, and Talane Boyd. Bernadine often shared the joys of growing up in a big family and how much she loved her siblings and missed the ones who had preceded her in death.

Bernadine leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother Mrs Emma Boyd, devoted children Stephen, Michael, Amber, and Marika, nineteen grandchildren, 2 great-children, adoring and devoted spouse Theodore Brackett, bother Herschel (Michelle) Boyd, Michelle (Jeff ) Boyd-Evans, stepchildren Paris Brackett, Jaravis Brackett, Jarell Brackett, God sisters Gina McWright and Sonya Smith, God children Brandon McWright, DeKisha Thomas, and Divonna Burrell, and a host of family and friends that includes Derek Coker (fiance of Amber) and Eian Kennedy (fiance of Marika) both of whom Bernadine approved of and accepted. Memories of Bernadine will always include seeing her beautiful bright smile, how she talked about her children and grandchildren and loved them unconditionally, hearing her sing (even if she didn’t know all the words), organizing cookouts for the neighborhood, knowing that if you needed a friend or someone to lean on she was a bridge over troubled water, how she loved to travel, and if you knew Bernadine you know that if she wasn’t watching Law and Order SVU, she was watching Criminal Minds and you better not change the channel. . . and if you knew Bernadine you how much she loved the time she spent with her Teddy .
