Girley Levon Livingston II was born on September 19, 1958, to Girlie Levon Livingston (“Bubba”), and Earleen Greene Livingston. He was one of five children. During his childhood educational years, he attended Aiken County (SC) Public School system and graduated in 1976 from Wagener-Salley High School in Wagener, SC. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in 1980 from Voorhees College (an HBCU located in Denmark, SC). He was initiated in the Fall of 1978 as a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. at Voorhees College (Zeta Gamma Chapter). In 1980, Levon married his high school sweetheart Cynthia D. Dykes in North, South Carolina. After he graduated from college they moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania before moving to Pittsburgh, PA . To this union was born one son, Girley III. Levon was employed as a youth detention care worker at Shuman Juvenile Detention Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Levon also served as a shop steward union representative while at Shuman Center. Levon was an active member and full-time employee as a labor union business agent of the S.E.I.U./Service Employees International Union in Pittsburgh, PA. He graciously served as a negotiator of contract enforcement, assisted with union organizing & member engagement, and assisted members with grievances regarding unfair labor and/or contract violations to serve on behalf of front-line employees & shop stewards of various public & private sector job role titles within the city of Pittsburgh, PA. He actively attended many of the S.E.I.U. International Conventions in different cities & states to promote the labor movement. Levon also worked as customer service ticket agent at PNC Park for Pittsburgh Pirates games. Levon’s last job role was a part-time staff member with the AARP/American Association of Retired Persons within Pittsburgh, PA. Levon had varied skill sets as a barber, cook, outrageous joke/storyteller, and his hidden musical talent as a youth was playing the piano and other instruments and singing in a band with friends. Levon was an avid fisherman and loved photography and videography. Levon was active in attendance of many annual family reunions and frequent get-togethers with family & friends. Throughout his life, Levon had a few nicknames: “Big Red”, “Pepper”, and “Big Liv”, to name a few. Levon leaves behind two sisters, Iva Deloris Livingston (Joe) Jefferson, and Shirley A. Livingston; three children: Girley Levon (Roberta A.) Livingston III , Chronicle D. (Orville B .) Crumb, and Samantha L. (Kevin M.) Roberts; five grandchildren: Jonathan D. Wolford, Dillon L. Mitchell Jr., Nakyi M. Livingston, Jalen M. Livingston, Kevin M. Roberts III, significant other Michelle D. Dawson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Levon was preceded in death by his mother and father, Girlie Levon Livingston (“Bubba”) and Earleen Greene Livingston; brother Curtis Livingston Sr.; and sister Eartha Dell (Livingston) Hughey. Although Levon is no longer here with us physically, his caring spirit will live on, and will always be present
