Robert E. (Bobby) Douglass, Sr. of Penn Hills, departed this life, peacefully, on Thursday, November 17, 2016. He was born on January 14, 1927 to the late George A. and Mary Martin Douglass in Pittsburgh, PA. He leaves to mourn his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Jean Redwood Douglass, his children, Diane Lewis, Robert E. Jr. (Cheryl), Lori Balthrop (Marcus), Bryan (Marta), Leslie Douglass, all of Pittsburgh, a sister, Kathleen Douglass of Seattle, a brother, Jack Douglass of San Diego, a sister-in-law, Loretta Douglass of Pittsburgh, cousins, Barbara Douglass of Pittsburgh and Wilbur Douglass of Virginia Beach, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. Preceding him in death are brothers, George “Junie” and William “Billy,” as well as sisters, Helen Robinson and Mary Frances Cook. Bobby attended Lemington Elementary School, Westinghouse High School, and displayed his excellent artistic skills at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In 1945, he was drafted into the US Army and served in World War II while earning the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged in 1947. Bobby was a long-time employee of Mellon Bank as well as an employee of the prominent advertising agency Batten, Barton, Durstine, and Osborn. He was also a part-time employee of Johnston the Florist and the Yellow Cab Company. In his younger years, Bobby was an avid and accomplished roller skater. Along with his artistic skills, he shared his passions with his children who followed in his footsteps and carved their own niche on the canvas he provided, building upon his legacy. In retirement, Bobby loved spending his mornings walking around the Highland Park Reservoir and his afternoons watching and caring for his grandchildren. Along his beautiful trek through a fulfilling life, Bobby became a Gold Club member of the Westinghouse Electric Men’s Club (WEMCO), where he once served as President, and, although he was not a member, often attended services at Bethesda Presbyterian Church with his wife, Jean. May eternal light shine upon him and may his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
