In 1978 he met Renay Atkinson and in that union, they had a son Richard Wade Atkinson in 1981.

Ricky worked for US Steel, the City of Pittsburgh as an Inspector in the Works Department, and Manager of the BP on Frankstown Road. He retired from Meyers Management after 15 years of service and was very loved by the residents and co-workers of the buildings that he took care of.

Ricky enjoyed watching NCIS on television, and enjoyed going to the Pirates Baseball Games with his son Ricky and other friends. Ricky had a special bond with his niece, LaTricia Proctor who he had loved as a daughter and her two children Michaela and RJ. His dream was to take RJ to a ball game so they could pick up women.
