WHEN PRAISES GO UP BLESSINGS COME DOWN

Raymond "Ray" C. Giles was born November 17, 1942 to the late Earl and Dorothy Giles.  Ray slipped away peacefully at home on August 16, 2016, with his loving wife Mary by his side.

Ray was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School system.  He grew up in the Hill District that he loved and spent most of his time.  You could ask anyone about Ray Giles and they would direct you to the corners of Centre and Herron Avenues; just like Cheers evrybody knew his name.

Ray had an extraordinary personality and was known for his GQ "swag".  Ray meant what he said and said what he meant.  If he considered you a friend "you knew it" and you could take his friendship to the bank!

On August 27, 1991 his life was changed forever when he surrendered to the low cost of high living and became a member of Narcotic Anonymous.  Through this processs he and his friend "Willie" started Giles & Slaughter (G&S) Transportation.  After being self-employed Ray began a career in the drug and alcohol field where he loved helping those who faced the same barriers that he had overcome.  He did this work until his illness go the best of him; although the spirit was willing the body was no longer able.

In 1996, cool "Ray" was swept off his feet when he met the love of his life Mary Louise Lomax.  They were happily married in 2004 and remained that way until his passing.

Ray leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Mary Giles.  Eight children; daughters Kelly, Rebecca and Dawn Giles, stepdaughters Oddessi and Cierra Lomax; Sons Raymond II and Ramon Giles, stepson Johnny Green.  Three grandsons Julius, Gerald and Raymond III; one granddaughter Olivia.  Four great grandchildren.  His mother in law Deaconess Doris Miller, two bother-in-laws William "Bill", Michael "Mike" (Madge) Lomax.  Three sister-in-law's Mae (Jay) Brown, Bedorah Rankin, Brenda Lomax.  Two childhood friends known as his brothers Terry King and Tom Canada Kenneth "Kenny" Currie his friend and shopping buddy.  A host of relatives, friends and his special Pinochle Crew.
