Maxine Yancey
July 13, 1929 ~ October 27, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years OldMaxine Montgomery was born in Purseglove, West Virginia; July 13, 1929 to the late Clarence Montgomery and Gladys Ada Marie Tanner. When as a child the family moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where she attended Pittsburgh Public Schools. She graduated from Schenley High School in the year 1948. She furthered her education by attending Wayne School of Practical Nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Nursing was her passion; she committed herself to every facet of caring for others.
Maxine was joined in marriage to the late Edward Yancey on May 1, 1954. From this union of 57 years were born four children; Lydia Marie, Edward Lovet, Maxine Victoria and Tyrone Anthony.
Through the years of her life, she committed herself to her community and civic duties. She was very active in her church of Wesley Center AME Zion; where she joined at an early age. She stayed active until her retirement in various outreach programs and as secretary for the Alliance for Retired Americans.
She was preceded in death by one brother Melvin Montgomery and sister Thelma Garmany. She is survived by one sister Mrs. Ethel Lunn, grandchildren; Lydia, Edward, Maxine, Tyrone, grandchildren; Lydia Sheree and Victoria Nicole, one great - grandchild; Vivian Grace and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
