Charles Pettigrew, son of the late Byrde and Eddie Pettigrew, was born in Seneca , South Carolina June 9, 1923. Charles was baptized at Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Charles joined the Army in 1939 and was honorably discharged in 1942. He moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1945.
When he relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Charles joined the Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church. He faithfully served as an Usher and Trustee for many years ans was very involved in church ministry.
December 7, 1963 Sedonia and Charles were united in marriage. Charles worked as an independent contractor as a painter. Later he was employed as a painter for Carnegie Mellon until he retired.
Charles enjoyed life. He enjoyed helping his wife with all her organizations at the Harriet Tubman Guild. He loved bowling. He was a mentor and big brother with the Boys and Girls Club and a jitney driver. Charles was always a gentleman, reliable and dependable.
Charles was a loving husband, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many. God saw fit to send one of his angels for Charles Thursday, April 21,2016 at 4:00 a.m.
He leaves to mourn his passing stepdaughter, Dolores M. Walker, son, Clifford E. Mack, daughter in law, Barbara,grandson, Clifford Mack, Jr and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters: Otis, Hugh, Claudia, Dot and Poppy, two nieces : Annette and Alethia.
