Aretha Scott Obituary

Aretha Beatrice Scott 71, of Lewiston, Me passed away peacefully on February 12, 2018. She was the daughter of the late William "Red" Scott and Thelma Scott Mitchell, and the stepdaughter of the late Richard Mitchell. She was a life long extended member of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ in Clairton, PA, and a member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ in Auburn, ME. She enjoyed helping others and providing for her family. She worked for 14 years as a housekeeper at Schooners Senior Living Community and for 13 years at TJMaxx where she enjoyed her time interacting with all her customers.

Always willing to help out anyone whenever she could, she assisted her mother while living in Large, PA with raising Katherine L. Scott and Theresa A. Scott her eldest nieces.

In the 71 years the Lord gave her on this earth, she mothered 3 children. Carolyn J. Scott, Curtis L. Scott, and Terri L. Scott-Bryant. With staying close to her children in mind, she moved to Lewiston, ME where she resided until the day of her passing. She often took time to encourage her children and grandchildren in subtle ways. Each can recount several stories of how she touched their lives. And thought of her as not just a mother and grandmother, but a best friend.

Aretha, also known as Retha, Queen Bee and Aunt FeFe to those who knew her best, always made sure to keep in contact with her family in Pennsylvania at all cost.  To this she leaves behind her siblings Ceola M. Melvin, John W. Scott and Mary A. Baptiste.  Her and her siblings spent many precious years together growing up in Large, PA, "The Patch" and had many great adventures along with their other siblings the late Mabel L. Hammonds and William C. Scott as well as cousins who were raised as siblings Marsha R. Cooper and the late Raymond "Faf" Browning.

A memory she had always reminded everyone about was how she enjoyed the family gatherings and prayer services they would have in the back living room of the house.  The prayer circle they would have brought people from all walks of life and age around, and this helped for them to have many lasting friendships.  Her siblings will greatly miss her and want everyone to know Queen Bee was the best!

Many of her nieces, nephews and cousins will continue to remember her for the many things she gave them.  A spirit of hope, and a place to travel off to.  Being one of the first to completely leave the area gave her family a place to travel to outside of their normal comfort zone.  The family will miss also miss the many times she shared just laughing and singing with them or eating some of her favorite things.  Mainly her triple layer chocolate cake.  They know that this will continue to be a lasting memory for all as they wish they had one of those cakes today.

Aretha, leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Carolyn J. Scott, Curtis L. Scott and Terri L. Scott-Bryant of Lewiston, ME, her grandchildren Keyonna L. Scott, Tempera M. Scott, Monte` J. Scott-Bryant, Kayla S. Bryant all of Lewiston, ME, Tiara Scott and Tionna Morgan of Pittsburgh, PA, Devonte` Scott of Lewiston, ME, and great-granddaughter Nylah L. Hall of Lewiston, ME. (Gloria) Scott of Jefferson Hills, PA, Marsha (Benjamin Sr.) Cooper of McKeesport, and brother-in-law William Hammonds of Clairton,PA; Goddaughters Lynette C. McClinton and Jonesse F.
